Winter White

Is safer than winter tan.  That is the message the FDA is trying to get across when it recently published proposed regulations banning children under the age of 18 from using indoor tanning beds and further requiring adult users to sign consent forms biannually.  According to the American Academy of Dermatology, people who use indoor tanning beds are 59% more likely to develop melanoma, considered to be the most dangerous type of skin cancer.  Not long ago, Center Faculty Fellow, Diana Bowman co-authored and published The Growing Public Health Challenges of Exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation From Use of Indoor Tanning Devices in the United States drawing attention to the negative health effects of UV radiation and calling for the immediate ban on use by minors.
