Human beings are creatures of habit and are skeptical of new things. Out with the old and in with the new is easier said than done. This historical pattern is especially evident with regard to innovation. While one might be inclined to point to fear of the technology or laziness in terms of understanding something new for the resistance, Calestous Juma, a professor in Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, believes otherwise. Juma maintains it is because the new often results in the loss of identity or lifestyle and discusses this theory in his book, “Innovation and Its Enemies: Why People Resist New Technologies.” Click here for eight takeaways from a recent interview with Juma.
