Phoenix’s Tech Future at the Smart Region Summit

ASU’s Smart Region Summit packed the house at the Beus Center for Law and Society on November 15. The Summit attracted speakers and attendees from state and local government representatives, several leading tech companies, and leading academics to discuss making the Phoenix region a national leader in smart technologies for transportation, communication, power, and sustainability.

The Summit was organized by members of the Smart Cities Initiative, a collaboration between ASU, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, and the Arizona Institute for Digital Progress. Attendees heard keynote addresses from Teresa Carlson, Vice President of Amazon Web Services‘ worldwide public sector operations, and Bill Eggers, Executive Director of the Deloitte Center fro Government Insights, as well as a full day of panel discussions and group work sessions.

In addition to engrossing discussions and presentations, several major initiatives were announced during the Summit: A new AWS Smart City Cloud Innovation Center at ASU, creation of the Greater Phoenix Smart Region Consortium, and new internship program with Deloitte for ASU Students.
