Stagnancy: the price of longevity

In his colorful article on the perils of living a very long life, ASU Professor Brad Allenby challenges us to peer into a make-believe classroom where a stone-old professor stands before a pulpit,  impeding progress and preaching obsoleteness.  Allenby likens the situation to an aging captain left standing on a dock while those best equipped to handle the seas, the students, clamor to board a ship – all yearning to sail right into the next cutting-edge wave.
