Answer: if the above image instills a craving for one of the pictured snacks you may well carry the seven-repeat allele of the dopamine-4 receptor gene.  The 7R variation results in a decrease in dopamine function which regulates both adults’ and children’s response to tasty, unhealthy snacks.  While the study’s authors note that environmental influences are also at play when making food choices, one has to wonder whether genes are becoming the fashionable scapegoat, mitigating individual responsibility and accountability.  Read more details here.
