Tuesday Triple Trivia for April 14, 2015

TTT13

3 Questions, 3 Hints. 3 Answers.  Every Tuesday.

1. What preventive measure indicates that more is better, despite push-back from big-name insurance companies?

Hint:

Answer: fear of the unknown is leading a handful of insurers to not cover multi-panel genetic tests that analyze a number of genes in a single test.  These insurance companies are citing unreliability and potentially unnecessary care as reasons for coverage denials.   A seemingly very shortsighted move both from a health care and future costs perspective.   Insurers are requesting more research & understanding yet are unlikely to fund what they are asking for.  Those on the other side of the fence say that coverage refusal or delay leads to “endangering patients who could be undergoing screenings or changing their diets if they knew about the possible risks.”  Read more here.

2. First came the food trucks.  Now this…

Hint:

Answer: meet Jared Rosenthal, the DNA road warrior who is getting ready to partake in a VH1 reality series called “Swab Stories.”   For those who have unanswered questions regarding biological relationships, all it takes is a swab and an inner cheek (or, as it relates to a potential unsuspecting party, other DNA-rich material) of the parties involved to resolve a nagging familial question.  Swab Stories premieres April 29 at 9 p.m. on VH1.   Read the story here.

3.  What do Amazon and food science have in common?

Hint:

Answer:  it is unlikely that King Richard the II’s recipe book, depicted above, contains the same content as Cognitive Cooking With Chef Watson — after all, King Richard was not privy to IBM’s technology and the Institute of Culinary Education‘s experts, who together have formulated original & tasty concoctions for the foodie in you.  Get your copy of Cognitive Cooking With Chef Watson here.
