It is an ongoing debate among economists, historians and other theorists: will automation destroy human jobs? Some say yes, some no and others say maybe. “Technological unemployment” as it is often referred to, is a very popular topic and one that we, at the Center, often discuss in class lectures, at conferences and other speaking engagements. John Markoff, in a New York Times article, highlights the various viewpoints on this hot topic and notes that when it comes to lawyers at least, there is no need to panic as most components of a lawyer’s job are and will be difficult to automate.
